Tudor Revival
By Patricia Poore
English architecture has always influenced American taste, from the colonial houses of New England and Virginia, through Gothic Revivals in the 19th century. Never was Anglo more apparent, though, than during the Tudor craze of the early 20th century. The wealthy asked their architects to build stone manors replete with Jacobean parapets and oriels; streetcar suburbs sprouted steep-roofed cottages with masonry veneer and decorative half-timbering.
